Principal

A graduate of the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal and the Hochschule für Musik in Munich (Germany), Michel Bettez first worked at the Opera House in Nuremberg. Since 1984, he is principal bassoon with the Orchestre Métropolitain and holds the same position at the Orchestre symphonique de Laval since 1990. Founding member (1989) of the Nouvel Ensemble Moderne, he was also a member of the Ensemble Pentaèdre for 10 years. Michel Bettez is artist-recitalist for the manufacturer Moosmann bassoons and played more than 10 times in the annual conferences of the International Double Reed Society. Michel Bettez gave masterclasses and recitals in several universities and music schools of France, the United States and Mexico.

Michel Bettez was professor of bassoon at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal from 1993 to 2004 and now teaches at the University of Montreal. He recorded a solo CD on Atma Classique label entitled "Le Basson Romantique", which received excellent reviews. Michel Bettez participated in several tours with various ensembles in Canada, the US, Mexico, Europe, Asia and Australia.
